Fig. 23.43 Thyroid carcinoma: ultrasound scan. This transverse scan shows an irregular, hypoechoic mass in the left lobe of the thyroid in a patient with metastatic disease but no known primary. Ultrasound-guided fine needle aspiration yielded abnormal cells consistent with an anaplastic carcinoma.
